So it looks like one town’s tantrum is turning into another town’s T-shirt.
After Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert called Canton, Kan., a sh**hole on “The Colbert Report,” my hometown’s residents reacted negatively and were quite upset, threatening physical harm to the comedian.
As I’ve said before, I think they need to learn to take a joke, like Moundridge, Kan.
A Moundridge Chamber of Commerce board member has designed a T-shirt tapping into the publicity Canton received.
Moundridge (home of The Ledger) is about 10 miles south of Canton, and the Moundridge Chamber board member said it was probably time to take advantage of the attention on central Kansas.
A timeline wasn’t released, but the board member said T-shirts could be available relatively soon.
The board member said at least three orders of the shirt had already been made before noon today.
To some, Colbert may seem like the bad guy in this scenario, but he is not.
He said he was sorry, and I blogged about that too.
I am interested to see how the Canton versus Colbert saga continues once the novelty of this proposed T-shirt spreads like wildfire.
It should prove to be quite amusing.
Stay tuned for more as this T-shirt story unfolds . . .
UPDATE: As of around 12:40 p.m., the T-shirts are on sale.
They can be purchased at www.cafepress.com/moundridge.
There are a variety of styles available, and there buyers can also purchase bumper stickers with the design.
Stay tuned for more . . .
What a unique and creative way to generate tourism and debate among the smaller Kansas communities!
