Wednesday and Thursday roommates Jerod Horchem, Travis Schafer and I all ate pretty good. Thursday we had steaks marinated in Italian dressing and cayenne pepper. Of course, I didn’t get to eat them right away because I spent an hour and a half helping one of my football players look for his car keys, which he lost on the football field. Just so you know, cell phones don’t work so well as flashlights when looking for keys.
But I digress. Thursday we grilled bratwursts. They were delicious. Travis didn’t get to enjoy them with us because he was busy that evening. However, Jerod and I chowed down, and we had a special guest.
Roger Stumpf, the new Western Plains Unified School District superintendent, came out to eat with us.
We invited him because we knew he has been working long hours to get settled into his new position and ensure the coming school year is a success.
As we ate, the three of us chatted. Jerod and I got to know our new boss, and I must say he is a great guy. His predecessor left a good foundation for him, and I am confident he will be able to build off of it and make Western Plains even greater than it was before. He has a lot of good ideas and seems to be ready to take the district forward.
I’m looking forward to working with him this year.
