Vogts To Play Taps For Memorial Day

On Monday the country will be celebrating Memorial Day, and it is a special day indeed.

It is a time to honor those who have and are still fighting for our freedoms, especially those who have given their lives for our country.

I will be doing my part by playing taps for the Canton ceremony.

I have done this for several years, but last year didn’t go the best. In fact, it was downright bad. I couldn’t hit the needed notes if I tried.

I’m shocked they asked me to do it again, but I couldn’t be happier to do so.

I have a lot of family that has either been in or is currently in the military, so I feel privileged to be able to help honor them all by dusting off my trumpet and sound the eloquent, yet haunting, call.

If you are interested in what the taps tune is all about, one Web site I found particularly interesting is www.tapsbugler.com.

I hope everyone takes some time Monday to remember those who had fought for our country. Without them, nothing we know today would be possible.
