Last time an opportunity like this rolled around, I was incredibly stupid and chose to not skip my classes at Wichita State University.
Lucky for me, I don’t have classes to attend anymore.
See, Bob Schieffer, CBS chief Washington correspondent and anchor and moderator of “ Face The Nation,” is speaking at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 3 as the first speaker of the 2009 Ray and Stella Dillon Lecture Series at Hutchinson Community College.
I’m excited, and since I was a former Blue Dragon and HCC Collegian editor, I’m hoping to get to take pictures and everything while I’m there.
Even though I might have to do a small fundraiser to be able to afford the $5 admission, I’m going to do everything I can to see Schieffer speak.
Last time I had an opportunity like this, I screwed it up by electing to go to classes.
Stupid, right?
Yes. It was, especially since it was one of my idols in the reporting world.
It was Bob Woodward of The Washington Post.
The same Bob Woodward that, with the help of Carl Bernstein, uncovered President Richard Nixon’s corrupt administration by investigating and reporting the Watergate scandal.
I still regret missing Woodward’s Dillon Lecture, so I don’t want to have yet another regret.
I’m too big of a journalism nerd to miss another one of these.
