July 2021 WSU Journalism Workshop at Wichita State University — Wichita, Kansas
Reporting and Coverage Track
— Synopsis: Providing instruction to high school journalism students regarding interviewing, journalistic writing of articles and headlines, and website design. During the course of this hands-on and interactive instruction, students interviewed former NBA player and WSU alumnus Ron Baker. They then produced a feature article based on the interview, and the students took part in one-on-one writing workshops with the instructors to write their stories. 

June 2019 Digital Media Project Management Workshop at Educational Services and Staff Development Association of Central Kansas (ESSDACK) — Hutchinson, Kansas
Incorporating New State Standards into the Journalism Classroom
— Synopsis: Providing teachers with activities and projects aligned to the new course profile standards using digital tools called for in the new state course. This hands-on workshop emphasized what public relations and journalism-related industry professionals want students to be able to do with writing and media work after graduation by helping teachers develop projects and create prototypes they could implement within their own classes that meet the state standards of the application-level CTE (Career and Technical Education) course in the Digital Media Pathway (formerly Arts/AV Communication).

— Synopsis: Providing examples and brief explanations of different technologies educators can use in the classroom to increase student learning and engagement. — Responsible: Overseeing and administering the Scholastic Press Corps educational program, which provides high school students with an opportunity to put their journalism and video production skills to the test in a “real-world” competition where students must use their journalism and video production skills to cover specific stories from their assigned day at the fair and to develop a 4-page newsletter or a 4-minute video for a wide range of prospective audience types. Schools compete during the five weekdays of the fair, and each team has no more than five students. I report to the KSF Education Manager.

— Responsible: Leading and attending executive board meetings in my capacity as chairperson and a community representative to the board and providing advice and guidance in matters concerning the publications, as well as being a voting member who helps in the hiring and firing of student editors and advertising managers. This entity oversees the student publications at Wichita State University. The primary entity board is in charge of is The Sunflower and its affiliate publications and websites.

— Responsible: Training educators from around the state in Project Management best practices using my Project Management Institute Educational Foundation national certification. Such trainings are part of my work in pioneering a state-wide curriculum blending Project Management with English III. I also provide journalism training for educators trying to start or revitalize their programs, looking specifically at the tools and technology available to them and how to run a scholastic media program within the required state curricular standards.
